Legacy Giving

Leave a legacy of hope.

Many cannot give large sums now — but a charitable bequest can be the most meaningful gift of a lifetime. For years to come, you can help children flourish, equip parents to support their families, and train leaders for a better future.

Gifts that cost you nothing now

Gifts in your will

You can choose to share your incredible care and compassion for years to come by leaving a gift in your will to Food for the Hungry Canada. Together with your loved ones, talk to your advisors to create or update your will to leave a lasting impact that reflects your values and passions. These are the most common ways people include their gift:

Residual bequest

FH Canada receives a percentage of the remaining residue of your estate after other specific legacies have been fulfilled. Many prefer a residual gift because it keeps pace with inflation and does not lose value over time.

Specific bequest

FH Canada receives a specific dollar amount. You can also give a specific asset, such as shares in a company.

You can make an impact now

There are several other ways to make a gift that leaves an impact — both today and in the future.

Gift of Securities

When you donate shares, mutual funds, or bonds, you receive a tax receipt for the full amount of the donation — and depending on your situation, you may avoid capital gains tax entirely.

Donor-Advised Funds

DAFs let you make a gift when you choose while receiving a tax receipt for the current year. Designate FH Canada as a beneficiary in your will, or initiate a grant any time.

Matching gifts

Maximize your impact and encourage others to give: donate a pool of funds from which FH Canada matches donations made within a given period, doubling the impact of your giving.

Give through life insurance

By making FH Canada a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, your estate will benefit from a charitable tax receipt for the value of the proceeds from the policy — which can leave more behind for the loved ones you've named in your will.

Give through RRSP, RRIF, or TFSA

When FH Canada is made a beneficiary of RRSPs, RRIFs, or TFSAs, a tax receipt is issued for their value. Taxes are reduced and probate fees avoided.

Thank you for considering Food for the Hungry Canada as your partner in creating a lasting legacy that will help families and communities on their journey out of poverty.
